Here we go again … well, not again. Constantly. And somebody is going to lose an eye, or a testicle, or the ability to breathe …

Let me be clear. The people setting up this training are DELIBERATELY INDIFFERENT TO THE SAFETY NEEDS OF THE PARTICIPANTS, BORDERING ON CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE.

The training provided in this story and the accompanying video is yet another example of agencies that want to ramp up the training but who are CLUELESS as to the hazards involved.

I really don’t know what to do. How to combat this. How to grab the entire LE community by the throat and say STOP THIS NONSENSE.

All I can do is all I can do .. which is raise awareness about how bad it is out there and hope that those who have come through our programs NEVER find themselves doing this sort of thing.

So, please read the story and watch the video attached to it for the places where the training participants are demonstrating 100% failure in anything resembling Best Practices for opposed force, projectile based training. There are NO pieces of approved and NECESSARY PPE on either of the participants. I was hoping that they were using the SecuriBlanks for this, but in listening to the training officer in the story, he effectively indicates that they are using “sim rounds” – code for marking cartridges, further indicated by his reference to getting shot at with them and the increase in stress that occurs.

This is another example of a well intentioned training failure. And when the career terminating injury occurs and the RBTA is called into court, it will testify that the agency failed to provide any sort of PPE necessary for this type of training. The officer will lose their dream job and the agency will lose a million dollars.

Tick, tick, tick.
