UPDATE — UPDATE — UPDATE …

“trainer” charged with Involuntary Manslaughter … claims “I thought I had my training gun.” Translation? Poor safety protocols.

The account of the above story suggests that the trainer was the only one all day that had a firearm and that during the training he had a prop in his holster. At the end of the training day, they decided to take a class and a photo. The officer who was shot had allegedly been having problems with her “hair and mask all day”. When she took off her mask, the trainer drew his pistol from his holster and shot her. He claims he was just kidding around. Probably true. But obviously they may have had some loose protocols for safety at the beginning of the day, but obviously had no end of day protocols in place. Or methodolgies for securing conventional weapons.

And now an officer is dead. Tragic and preventable.
